DFG Approves New Research Unit on Multiple Stress Interactions in Maize

We’re excited to share that the German Research Foundation (DFG) has granted € 5.4 million in funding (plus overheads) for a new Research Unit, MultiStress FOR 6101. Over the next four years Over the next four years, our team will explore how maize responds to multiple, simultaneous stresses — from drought and nutrient shortage to pests and diseases — under real field conditions.

By studying these complex stress interactions, the project aims to strengthen the scientific foundation for more resilient and sustainable maize production in a changing climate.

Our initiative unites researchers from the Universities of Göttingen, Tübingen, Cologne, Hohenheim, and the Technical University of Munich, working closely with partners across Africa and Europe.
